my credentials

I have worked professionally in Ireland and the U.S. for about 8 years, for all levels of client—from the E.U., Irish Government and Washington advocacy groups, through Fortune 500-level companies (such as TIAA-CREF, Bank of Ireland and Coupons.com) to small businessses, start-ups and non-profit organisations.
I now work independently with both design studios and my own clients.

I was initially trained through a 4 year degree programme in Visual Communications (Graphic Design) at the Dublin Institute of Technology, one of Ireland’s leading colleges in the field. I qualified in 2003 with an Upper Second Class Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree and was immediately hired by XMI design, currently Ireland’s largest branding and design studio (following a merger with Huguenot Design). I worked there for 3.5 years until leaving Ireland in December 2006.

While in New York, I worked primarily with MSDS in SoHo (a branding and interactive studio), freelancing for over a year before joining the team as their Senior Designer until June 2009. I worked with the team there on a mix of Fortune 500 and non-profit companies. Their clients include SAFE (Washington Advocacy Group), Acumen Fund, TIAA-CREF and MetroSouth (a Chicago hospital). I still work with them on a freelance basis from time to time, most recently on a project to rebrand the JDC (the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee), for which I created the brand guidelines and associated collateral pieces.

I have extensive experience with interactive and print design, and have developed work flow processes to ensure absolute correctness and efficiency in these areas. I specialize in branding and identity design, and in print design such as advertising, brochures and collateral pieces. I have been working on more and more screen based projects lately, notably websites and online marketing, and interactive presentations. I also have a lot of experience with photography, both in shooting images and with photo-direction.
